Maureen Mahle is an engineer and specialist in high performance homes. As a VP and Director of SWA’s Sustainable Housing Services, Ms. Mahle provides expert sustainable design, specification, and construction consulting for a variety of project types including community developments, private residences, mixed-use, and multifamily buildings. She supports project teams seeking to comply with regional green building programs, utility-sponsored energy efficiency incentive programs, and national green building certifications including the National Green Building Standard and ENERGY STAR® programs for single family and multifamily housing. She also manages SWA’s work as a Provider for the U.S. Green Building Council LEED® for Homes™ program. She has approved over 1,000 housing units in 10 states for certification under the program since 2005, and is currently overseeing the certification of more than 5000 residential units in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.

Under Ms. Mahle’s leadership, SWA has piloted several LEED programs for the U.S. Green Building Council, including LEED for Homes and LEED for Homes: Multifamily Mid-rise adaptation. Ms. Mahle serves as the multifamily representative to the national LEED Technical Committee, the chair of the LEED Mid-rise Working Group, and as a member of the LEED for Homes 2012 Working Group charged with updating and revising USGBC’s rating systems.

Ms. Mahle has supported SWA’s building science research as the lead member of the Consortium for Advanced Residential Buildings (CARB), a U.S. Department of Energy Building America research partner, and as a key member of the Partnership for Advanced Technology in Housing (PATH) funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Her specializations include inspections, testing, analysis and information dissemination of hurricane-resistant housing, panelized construction technologies, and high performance heating, cooling, domestic hot water, and ventilation systems.
