Allan and Geraldine Rosenberg Residence

Freeport, NY

A 100% affordable senior housing community designed to be efficient, sustainable, and architecturally expressive

Located in the Village of Freeport on Long Island, the Allan and Geraldine Rosenberg Residence serves the area’s low-income senior population. In addition to one-bedroom apartments, the design includes community space, a recreational rooftop terrace, and a walking track, along with numerous green and energy-efficient features.

Studio Libeskind was selected as the architect by project sponsor Selfhelp in part to demonstrate that affordable housing can be not only comfortable and livable, but also dynamic and vibrant.

The building features a minimalist white exterior articulated with vertical geometric facets and a sloping standing seam metal roof, punctuated by dormer windows on the upper floors. A central open space serves as a landscaped courtyard for residents. Glazed walls and multiple landscaped outdoor areas create a strong visual and spatial connection between interior and exterior spaces, enhancing natural light throughout the building.
