Celebrate 50 with Us!

We’re celebrating all year by honoring past milestones at SWA and across the industry, while exploring the future of sustainable, accessible, high-performance buildings. Follow along here, in our newsletters, and on SWA’s LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook channels.

50 Years in 50 Days

Each day leading up to our 50th anniversary, we celebrated a year of our history with our “50 Years in 50 Days” campaign. We looked back on all the innovations, research, policies, and projects that have improved the built environment since 1972.

This campaign represents how far SWA and our industry have come in creating sustainable, accessible, healthy, and resilient buildings. Explore the 50-year timeline:

Equity is a core tenet of SWA’s business and a major factor behind how we make decisions both internally and for our projects. We strive to hire talent from diverse backgrounds and foster an environment of learning and career growth. As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we want to help support an organization with these same values.

A Message from Steven Winter, Chairman & Founder

Steven WinterIt gives me great pleasure to welcome you all into a new year. Despite the many challenges we all have faced, and continue to face, this year is special. 2022 marks SWA’s 50th year in business!

Since our establishment in 1972, our firm has grown considerably. What began as a small building science consultancy in NYC, SWA has evolved into an industry-leading professional service firm with offices in four cities and over 130 employees. Over the years, SWA has employed some of the finest practitioners in the industry and worked with an array of outstanding clients, all of whom have been motivated by the same goal – to improve the built environment.

Today, we are proud to continue working towards this goal and look forward to reaching new heights, not only as a firm, but as an industry. As the building sector continues to demand improvements, SWA is uniquely positioned to provide enhanced professional services that support the development of buildings which are more sustainable, healthy, accessible, resilient, durable, and cost- and energy-efficient.

Thank you to those who have awarded us the opportunity to work on so many innovative and impactful projects thus far. Our success is directly attributed to the exceptional network of clients and partners that we have worked with over the last five decades. We look forward to continuing and expanding on these long-standing relationships.

Here’s to the next 50 years, and beyond!

A Message from Srikanth Puttagunta, CEO

Image of SriIt is my honor to be celebrating SWA’s 50th anniversary as the company’s new CEO.

When I arrived at SWA more than 18 years ago, I could have never fathomed the opportunity that I was walking into. I saw immediately that I was surrounded by a passionate group of people working hard on a common goal: to improve the built environment (and have a whole lot of fun while doing so). It is truly amazing to see all the people who have made long-term careers at SWA and the reach of SWA alumni in our industry.

As much as I’m looking forward to honoring our past accomplishments as we celebrate 50, my focus and excitement are on the future of SWA and our industry. We are at a unique time where a multitude of influences—regulations, public awareness, climate change, a global pandemic, and equity—are converging to drive the importance of our work.

We understand that it will take a collaborative effort from all of us in our industry to meet the needs of today and tomorrow. I look forward to working with my SWA community and all of you to have a positive impact on our world, so that we can collectively make the built environment more sustainable, accessible, and equitable for many years to come.
