Sofia Melo is a Building Systems Director at SWA working in sustainability and energy consulting for multifamily buildings. She specializes in optimization for high-performance buildings related to cost, energy usage and carbon emissions over a building’s life-cycle.

At SWA, Ms. Melo oversees a team of highly-skilled project managers to support multifamily new development and major renovation projects seeking sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives and associated certifications. Ms. Melo also provides services on Energy Code Compliance for New York State Projects which include technical assistance, training, energy modeling and required inspections. Some of the programs that Ms. Melo works with directly include:

  • NYSERDA Multifamily Performance Program for New Construction (MPP)
  • EPA Multifamily High-Rise Program
  • Enterprise Green Communities
  • LEED® for Homes™

In addition to providing support to over 100 multifamily new construction projects with her team, Ms. Melo is SWA’s in-house technical expert and liaison for the EPA’s Energy Star Multifamily High Rise Program and NYSERDA Multifamily Programs (MPP and MFNCP).
