Paula Zimin is the Director of the Sustainable Building Services group at SWA. With a professional background in architecture and design, she has developed expertise in high performance design for both commercial and residential sectors over the last 20 years. Her focus is on sustainable buildings and energy efficiency strategies for the new construction and renovation market. Paula’s team includes SWA’s Commercial Green Programs team who assists with commercial green building certifications, as well as SWA’s Energy Analytics team which assists project teams in understanding building loads and evaluating passive and active strategies for energy use reduction.
Paula has contributed to the development and refinement of several green residential programs including LEED® for Homes™ for Multifamily Mid-Rise (including the High-Rise Pilot), and Enterprise’s Green Communities program for affordable housing developments. In addition, she has provided support to various government programs including the NYSERDA Multi-Family Performance Program and the national ENERGY STAR® Multifamily High-Rise Program.
Paula also is a regular volunteer with local and national organizations and is currently representing the NY AIA in the NYC Cross Learning Alliance, a collaboration between NYC AIA, NYC ASHRAE, and Urban Green Council. She is a past member and chair of the USGBC LEED Energy & Atmosphere Technical Advisory Committee (2014-2019). In these roles, she actively participates in expanding the collective knowledge and actionable solutions to the challenges of sustainability and energy efficiency in design, as well as discuss future opportunities to improve the built environment.
