Seven SWA Projects Awarded at NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence Awards

Last month, SWA team members attended the Building of Excellence Awards, where seven SWA projects were awarded. The Buildings of Excellence competition, administered by The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), incentivizes innovative multifamily projects that aim to achieve near- to net-zero carbon emissions through design, construction, and operation.

The competition, announced by Governor Cuomo in March, 2019 in support of his nation-leading Green New Deal, has a $40M award pool to be distributed throughout three rounds. The first round of awarded 28 projects, which were announced on October 29, 2019, received $18 million.

The second round of the competition recently launched with projects eligible to receive up to $1 million. Proposers must demonstrate how a project will spur low to net zero carbon buildings, commit to sharing project design costs and construction techniques, and how the project displays quality and innovation.
