Job Position: Energy Analyst III/IV
Full time/part time: Full time
Location: New York, NY

The Position:

The Energy Analyst III/IV supports the Analytics team which is part of the firm’s Sustainable Building Services group. The position provides whole-building energy analysis to support systems optimization, LEED certification, energy code compliance and compliance with energy efficiency incentive programs for various building typologies in the region. The primary focus of this position is whole-building energy modeling under ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Cost Budget and Performance Rating Method protocols as well as low-energy feasibility studies.

This position reports to the Senior Energy Engineer.

The Energy Analyst III/IV will work on variety of building types; multifamily existing buildings, new construction or commercial and gut-renovation projects, and must be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Articulate building science principles and green building program requirements to a project team as well as recommendations and results of energy analyses
  • Review architectural and mechanical drawings and specifications & prepare energy plan review reports
  • Identify energy saving and green building measures to maximize performance of existing designs
  • Create energy simulations and analyses using eQUEST and/or EnergyPlus
  • Analyze costs and benefits associated with energy efficiency measures
  • Revise energy models and/or analyses to reflect as-built conditions using field data.
  • Complete program documentation and respond to review comments
  • Effectively communicate in written and spoken English.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Below is a list of the minimum requirements for the position. The role requires a self-starter able to work independently in a large office environment. This position will require independent work as well as close collaboration with other staff members and multiple client project teams.

Required industry knowledge, and skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • 2 to 4 years consecutive and relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of high performance systems and energy efficiency
  • Experience working on green building projects that have either achieved or pursued LEED certification and incentive programs

Required skills/certifications:

  • ASHRAE Standards 90.1, 62.1, and 62.2
  • Commercial & Residential HVAC systems and design
  • ENERGY STAR Multifamily High-Rise, State and Local Utility incentive programs
  • Cost estimating
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (in order of importance Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Preferred knowledge and skills:

  • Experience in energy efficiency incentive programs (NYSERDA Multifamily Performance Program, Enterprise Green Communities, and NJ Pay for Performance Program)
  • Experience with both new construction and retrofit projects
  • Ability to calculate costs and paybacks associated with energy measures

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be based in the office, performing office based tasks, using computer based software.

Travel required:

No overnight travel is anticipated for this position. Some occasional local day travel will be necessary.

Working Environment:

Most of this work is performed in an office environment. Occasional field work which will involve trips to projects sites for observation and training maybe required.
