SWA was retained by the U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Brooklyn, New York as the fair housing expert on cases filed against private developers for potential violations of the Fair Housing Amendments Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. SWA performed field inspections and plan reviews of new construction projects to identify and determine the extent of violations of federal mandates for accessibility and consulted with the civil rights case attorneys on remediation measures.
