Multifamily Overview

From small apartment buildings to large affordable housing complexes and luxury high-rises, SWA can make your new or existing residential building run lighter for longer by identifying no and low cost operation and maintenance energy strategies that balance out major capital costs.

In the last five years, SWA has conducted energy audits on hundreds of multifamily buildings, totaling 20,000 units of housing. For many of these buildings, we have also provided retro-commissioning, code inspections, design and oversight of retrofit implementation, accessibility consulting, and training. SWA provides complete certification services under the LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ rating system.

For new multifamily construction, SWA provides certification services under the LEED® for Homes: Multifamily Mid-rise™ and LEED® for New Construction (and Major Renovations)™ rating systems, as well as the National Green Building Standard and Enterprise Green Communities certification program. SWA has supported over 1,000 green housing units in eight states using a combination of project team education, energy modeling, testing and verification services.

SWA navigates our clients through code compliance and certification programs—and we pair our energy consulting services with government and utility financial incentive programs in order to help our clients achieve high performing building improvements at a lower cost.

As a national leader in multifamily housing policy, energy management, technical assistance, regulatory issues, and training, SWA is especially equipped to work with owners and developers on sustainable building practices.
