Incentives for Commercial Clients

Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund Commercial & Industrial Programs

SWA works with building owners in Connecticut to perform energy audits, modeling, and design in order to recommend energy efficient upgrades that are eligible for incentives and/or financing available through the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund.

Through multiple C&I programs serving new construction, major renovations, retrofits, and equipment replacement, incentives are available for a variety of services, such as energy modeling, retrocommissioning, and green building certifications, and for energy efficient upgrades to building systems such as lighting, HVAC, hot water, and building envelope.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)

As a partner in various NYSERDA energy incentive programs, SWA helps new and existing buildings improve their performance, achieve the ENERGY STAR label, and earn NYSERDA incentives. SWA’s many years of working with NYSERDA in a variety of different capacities is an indication of our knowledge of the agency, the contracting process, the customers, and the regional considerations for each project.

FlexTech Program
FlexTech helps facilities access objective customized building energy information through cost-shared energy studies. The studies cover a range of energy usage aspects, including peak load reduction and load management, retro-commissioning, and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) and renewable energy feasibility.

FlexTech cost-shared energy studies are available to industrial, commercial, institutional, state, municipal, nonprofit, healthcare, public and private K-12 school, college, and university facilities.

FlexTech Benchmarking Pilot
NYSERDA has launched a pilot benchmarking incentive program. The pilot is particularly helpful to owners and developers of buildings larger than 50,000 sf who are now required by Local Law 84 to pursue benchmarking annually.

The pilot augments traditional NYSERDA FlexTech incentives by providing commercial, industrial, and institutional customers with the first $7,000 in benchmarking services per site (with the balance cost-shared), when using approved FlexTech Consultants. SWA has been a FlexTech Consultant since the program’s inception.

FlexTech Energy Audit
Customers with an average electric demand of 100kW or less may be eligible for a low-cost, walk through energy audit.

Small businesses and nonprofits are eligible for a free audit. State and local governments are eligible for audits on a cost-shared basis, with a $100 fee for facilities with 10 or fewer employees and a $400 fee for facilities with greater than 10 employees.

Consolidated Edison Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program

SWA is an approved Market Partner in Con Edison’s Commercial and Industrial program. Commercial, industrial, and multifamily customers may qualify for rebates on equipment upgrades, performance-based custom incentives, and co-funded energy audits/efficiency technical studies.

Pre-approved projects are eligible for 50% co-funding for Level III energy audits, up to $67,000. Post-audit, customers can apply for rebates toward energy efficient capital upgrades. Post-implementation, customers can apply for performance-based incentives that are determined based on first year projections.

Long Island Power Authority Commercial Efficiency Program

SWA is a Technical Assistance provider in the LIPA Commercial Efficiency Program. We work with new buildings to develop lower operating costs and increased efficiency savings. The Program supports LEED® certification, energy modeling, energy consulting and compliance.

Improvements can be reimbursed for using SWA’s services, achieving LEED certification and for other energy efficiency projects that result in lower electric bills. All buildings in LIPA’s service area are eligible including commercial, industrial, government, and educational facilities.

New Jersey Clean Energy

The New Jersey Clean Energy program offers a multitude of financial incentives for all customer types, ranging from solar/wind credits and rebates to free benchmarking. Through the NJ SmartStart program, customers can receive incentives for equipment upgrades. Funding is also available through the comprehensive Pay for Performance Program and through cost-sharing in the Direct Install program.

Pay for Performance Program (P4P)
Launched in March 2009, New Jersey Clean Energy’s Pay for Performance (P4P) Program offers incentives to existing commercial, industrial, institutional, municipal, educational, healthcare, and multifamily buildings with an average annual peak kW demand electricity usage of more than 100 kW (with exceptions for some building types). As part of the program’s partner network, SWA is qualified to help owners and developers approach building upgrades comprehensively with P4P.

SWA is a P4P-approved ENERGY STAR® Partner. SWA audits the project site, develops an Energy Reduction Plan, and makes recommendations to reduce operating costs. SWA then maps out a financial plan for funding energy efficiency measures and a construction schedule for installation. The P4P program uses the ENERGY STAR Program Portfolio Manager. Thus, buildings participating in P4P also become eligible to earn the ENERGY STAR. Moreover, buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR through P4P can also qualify for a Combined Heat and Power installation incentive.

Pepco Commercial & Industrial Energy Savings Program

SWA is a Trade Ally in Pepco’s C&I Program. The Pepco C&I Energy Savings Program is designed to support energy efficiency projects in new and existing buildings in Maryland.

The program provides rebates for the purchase and installation of specific energy efficiency upgrades that make a building more efficient by reducing electric costs.

Federal Tax deduction for Energy-Efficient Commercial Buildings

The federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 established a tax deduction for energy-efficient commercial buildings applicable to qualifying systems and buildings placed in service by December 31, 2013. A tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available to owners of new or existing buildings who install interior lighting, building envelope, or heating, cooling, ventilation, or hot water systems that reduce the building’s total energy and power cost by 50% or more in comparison to a building meeting minimum requirements set by ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001. Energy savings must be calculated using qualified computer software approved by the IRS, which can be performed by SWA. For more information on this tax deduction, please read our article.
