As Co-Director of SWA’s Commercial Building Energy Services, Lauren Brust is responsible for the business development and client management for the group. She oversees green and high performance building projects in existing commercial buildings. Ms. Brust specializes in supervising sustainable capital plan development, energy management strategy and energy auditing in commercial spaces, including offices, schools, healthcare facilities and industrial facilities. She is also well-versed in identifying and working with incentive and compliance programs along the East Coast. Under her leadership, SWA’s Commercial Building Energy Services team has also worked with owners and building managers to assess the feasibility of achieving LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ certification at properties throughout the Northeast states, totaling over 5 million sf.
Ms. Brust’s work in sustainable master planning and high performance building analysis includes project management, portfolio management and gathering diagnostic data related to building operations. In her work with clients, Ms. Brust prioritizes and balances the multiple goals that accompany every large project, including energy improvements, feasibility, compliance, certification, and cost considerations.
Ms. Brust has expanded SWA’s relationship with various state and utility incentive programs, connecting more clients to funding for pursuing energy audits, technical building studies, and minor to major capital upgrades. Most recently, Ms. Brust supervised SWA’s energy audits on over 90 municipalities and school districts through New Jersey Clean Energy’s Local Government Energy Audit (LGEA) program; she has also managed the NYSERDA FlexTech program, including the Benchmarking Program. Her current sustainability consulting work includes planning and guidelines for the City of Newark, NJ, the U.S. General Services Administration and LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification for a variety of commercial office buildings and campuses.
